 What is WorldSkills South Africa?

WorldSkills South Africa is the national non-profit organisation which works with educators, industry bodies, labour groups and government to promote the "skills respect" culture through vocational education and training.

 

 

 History

Established in 1987 as Skills SA Foundation, now WorldSkills South Africa, was incorporated to promote the upgrading of the standards and the status of vocational training in South Africa. WorldSkills is an independent organisation which champions skills and learning for work through a national competitions network and events. It has widened its scope to include managing of the South African team that participates in the WorldSkills Competition internationally.

 How does it work?

 

 

WorldSkills is the organisation that was set up in 1953 to promote vocational training and raise the status and standards of vocational skills and training world-wide.

The WorldSkills competition, is held every two years and is the platform where young people compete to become world champions in their fields. The competitors from 38 member nations around the world are selected from regional and national competitions. It sets world-class standards in at least 40 skill categories. WorldSkills South Africa is the official body affiliated to the international WorldSkills organisation and is the national body responsible for the South African entry into the WorldSkills Competition. To promote a skills respect culture in South Africa through the recognition of excellence at national and international level. To be the provider of international benchmarks for skills development against which vocational learning can be measured.

To actively lead the championing of skills development and learning for work through competitions, events, recognition and awards. Interacting with all stakeholders to promote international benchmarks and improve learning standards.
